Disability History Month in the UK is a month-long observance of the history of the disability rights movement. It also commemorates the achievements and contributions of disabled people and strives to raise awareness for the barriers that still face the disabled community.
Each year, the UK holds Disability History Month from November 22 to December 22. It was first established in 2010 by Richard Reiser, and it’s celebrated by whichever individuals and organizations choose to participate.
A great way to celebrate UK Disability History Month at your workplace is by reviewing recruitment practices to make sure they’re inclusive, organizing a lunch and learn to raise awareness, and wearing purple in virtual meetings on December 3rd to support Purple Light Up. Purple Light Up is a global movement that celebrates and draws attention to the contribution of the 386 million employees with disabilities in the workplace.
