The period from November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10 December (Human Rights Day), is marked by the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign. This international civil society campaign, launched in 1991 and supported by the United Nations, advocates for the elimination of gender-based violence and promotes actions that create safer communities, raise awareness, and support survivors.
Throughout the 16 days, various events, workshops, seminars, rallies, and campaigns take place to engage communities in conversations about gender equality, women’s rights, and the importance of ending violence against women and girls. The campaign focuses on empowering survivors, educating the public about the root causes of gender-based violence, and encouraging bystander intervention to prevent violence.
