Thaipusam is a vibrant Hindu festival celebrated by Tamil communities around the world, particularly in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, and India. The festival typically falls in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February) and lasts for one or two days. Thaipusam is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu deity of war and victory.
Devotees undertake a spiritual journey, often walking long distances to reach Murugan temples while carrying kavadis (elaborate structures decorated with peacock feathers, flowers, and other offerings) attached to their bodies through piercings or by carrying pots of milk. It is a time of prayer, purification, and thanksgiving, as devotees seek blessings, express gratitude, and fulfill vows made to Lord Murugan.
