Important Event Observance begins at sunset, the evening before the first full day of holiday.
The first of the three harvest Sabbats (Mabon and Samhain are the others), Lughnasadh celebrates the ripening of grains and corn. It is sometimes known as the festival of the first fruits, since corn, wheat, and barley are ready to be picked by August in the Northern Hemisphere.
