Gyan Panchami is a day devoted to knowledge and learning, symbolizing the importance of spiritual and secular education. It falls on the fifth day of the Jain New Year which falls in the month of Kartika, usually in October or November. On this day, Jains pay homage to their scriptures, the Agamas, recognizing them as sources of wisdom and enlightenment.
Devotees engage in reading, cleaning and worshipping these texts, and it’s common for them to visit libraries and temples, reflecting on the value of knowledge in leading a meaningful life. This festival highlights Jainism’s deep respect for knowledge as a means to achieve liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
