Important Event
The Presentation of Christ, also known as Candlemas, commemorates the presentation of the infant Jesus at the Temple in Jerusalem, 40 days after His birth. According to the Gospel of Luke, Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple to fulfill the purification rites and present Him to God. It’s observed on February 15 according to the Julian calendar, but churches following the Gregorian calendar observe it on February 2.
During the liturgical celebration, candles are blessed, symbolizing the Light of Christ coming into the world. This feast holds special significance in the Eastern Orthodox Church as it emphasizes the importance of Christ’s incarnation and His fulfillment of the Law.
